Don’t embrace debate, watch and enjoy Leonard Fournette while you can at LSU
The Twitterverse is buzzing around Leonard Fournette’s future but n the words Aaron Rodgers, it is time for everyone to R-E-L-A-X.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio created quite the stir with his recent article advising LSU running back Leonard Fournette to sit out next season as he waits to become eligible to enter the NFL Draft. I have little interest in debating the merits for or against this argument. You either find yourself arguing for an idealized version of collegiate athletics or seeing life through the lense of pure capitalism. Fournette should do whatever he feels is right when the time comes.

The key phrase is “when the time comes” as in it has not come yet. Fournette has played a total of three games this season. They have been three superhuman games, but three games nonetheless. This week has been spent by many in college football debating everything ranging from whether Fournette is better than Herschel Walker to when Fournette should forgo his college career.
All this reminds me of what I experience when I go to concerts lately. I spend the entire show watching the person on stage through someone’s cell phone. You have been there before, right? We live in a culture controlled by technology that has us scrambling to capture moments and not experience them.
What does all this have to do with Fournette? Social media demands instant reactions and hot takes. I fear we may miss out on truly enjoying one of the best college football players we have seen in the past decade because we are so busy debating all these questions.
LSU is in the beginning stages of their season. We at least have another two full months of watching Fournette run over anything that moves towards him on the football field.
Put the cell phone down. Step away from the keyboard. Enjoy the sheer talent you are seeing in purple and gold. Twitter will be there when you get back.
