Temple to host College GameDay for Notre Dame game next weekend?

The Temple Owls are off to a potentially historic season for the AAC team and it could result in ESPN and College GameDay coming to campus next week.

Hosting College GameDay is a special honor for everyone on campus because ESPN can bring their traveling pre-game circus to only one campus each week and there’s so many deserving schools.

That honor can be even more special for schools who aren’t annual hosts for GameDay and that special honor could be bestowed upon the Temple Owls who are reportedly the clubhouse leader to host next weekend, according to GameDay host Rece Davis, when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are coming to the Philadelphia campus.

Temple beat the Penn State Nittany Lions in the season opener behind 10 sacks from an impressive defense that hasn’t let up the rest of the year, but little did we know then that this team would be entering their Halloween game against Notre Dame without a loss.

Temple needed a pair of blocked punts to come back and beat East Carolina on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish have only one loss, a nail-biter at Clemson, despite several season-ending injuries to key performers like quarterback Malik Zaire, running back Tarean Folston and defensive tackle Jarron Jones, among others.

Notre Dame is off this weekend so it’s not like ESPN could change course if Notre Dame were to suffer a loss and make the matchup less desirable.

And when you look at the Week 9 schedule there aren’t many alternatives that jump out at you that could be better options than Temple.

With College GameDay on the campus of James Madison in Virginia for the Duke game against Richmond, a second straight game in the northeast would clearly give rise to the claims that ESPN has a clear FCS and American Athletic Conference bias.
