After decommitting from Alabama on October 14, Khalid Kareem committed to Notre Dame on Friday.

After decommiting from the Alabama Crimson Tide on October 14, four-star 2016 defensive end Khalid Kareem (Harrison. Farmington MI) committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday.

is the No. 194 player in the ’16 class, No. 8 strong-side defensive end, and the No. 6 overall player from the state of Michigan per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Notching 37 offers in total, he was recruited to the Irish by defensive line coach Keith Gilmore and defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder who served as the secondary recruiter.

On the Irish front, he took an official visit to South Bend on October 17, and was visited by head coach Brian Kelly and Gilmore on October 21, before committing on Friday.

With this commitment, the Irish now have 17 total commitments in the class, including six from four-star recruits, which puts them at No. 13 in the country, per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

What the Irish are getting in Kareem is a player who can do a little bit of everything. He gives offensive linemen fits and can get into the backfield with relative ease.

Measuring at 6-foot-4, 260 pounds, Kareem  gives Kelly and his staff an impact player on the defensive side on the ball and his quickness and versatility allows the program to be more aggressive defensively in terms of playcalling.

In turn, this could make opposing offenses uncomfortable which works to the Irish’s advantage.

The Irish saw an opportunity to grab a coveted prospect and they made the most of it. It will certainly be exciting to watch him suit up on Saturday’s.
