Les Miles’ outcome at LSU could set precedent for Georgia, Mark Richt
Les Miles is reportedly on his way out at LSU, and the outcome of his situation could set a precedent for Georgia and Mark Richt.

It’s like being in school when the teacher asks a question to the class. Nobody wants to be the first person to raise their hand, but once someone does, then the questions start coming from many more.
Georgia’s administration may want to fire Mark Richt deep down inside, but they just can’t bring themselves to wave goodbye to a guy who’s had so much success and has brought their program from the depths to relevance again.
But if LSU were to buyout Les Miles’ contract, as they are reportedly looking at doing, and send him on his way, that might be the cue for Georgia to pull the trigger on a move that many have contemplated happening for several years now.

Miles is a guy in a similar situation to Richt. He’s been at LSU for 11 seasons now and has begun to see declining results, despite having a lot of success recruiting top players. He’s been under fire for his team’s lack of consistency, and late-season collapses in the last few years.
If LSU is willing to cut ties with Miles – a guy who has won just as many SEC titles as Richt (one of them coming against Georgia) and who won a national championship in 2007 – then Georgia’s leadership might see that as the opening to justify parting ways with Mark Richt.
All of this may mean absolutely nothing. Those in power at Georgia may have already made their decision on Richt’s future, and whether or not the Les Miles era is ushered out at LSU may make no difference in their thinking. They could be solidly behind Richt, or just waiting for the season to end to make the call.
But if Miles is bounced out of Baton Rouge, then Mark Richt should definitely be concerned, as it is proof that it doesn’t matter how much you win or how many titles you have on your resume – the thought process is “what have you done for us lately?”
