BYU Football: Where will Cougars QB Taysom Hill play in 2016?
Taysom Hill was once mentioned as a Heisman candidate but after injuries derailed his career at BYU, could the talented quarterback seek a change of scenery?
Taysom Hill was planning on going to Stanford out of high school, but following his mission to Australia he ended up playing for the Cougars. Hill was an immediate threat on the ground and ever has been since, despite having three injuries. The first was sustained against the Utah State Aggies, but he would return and remained healthy throughout his entire sophomore season.
As a junior, he led the Cougars to a 4-0 record until he once again got hurt against the Aggies. This year he didn’t finish the first game at Nebraska before having to leave again with a foot injury.
Taysom Hill has said there is a likelihood that he will continue playing, despite the fact some have said he wouldn’t have a chance after three season-ending injuries. He would almost certainly receive a medical waiver for another year.

Hill’s potential decision of returning to BYU is complicated because freshman Tanner Mangum has successfully taken over since Week One and nobody wants Mangum’s progression to be stinted.
Mangum is considered the future of the program. Perhaps coach Bronco Mendenhall could work something out for the two talented quarterbacks, but it wouldn’t be an easy choice.

Hill could return to Stanford where he was initially committed, or he could head to Michigan and play for coach Harbaugh, who recruited Hill at Stanford. Each of the two programs will be looking for a new quarterback next season. Another school could even be on Hill’s mind as well.
BYU plays a very tough schedule next year, including games against Arizona, UCLA, Mississippi State, Boise State and Utah. This could give Hill a reason to stay at BYU, as he will provide solid depth if he doesn’t end up starting. But if he does start, there is no guarantee he’d make it through another entire season without getting banged up.
As much as I’d love for him to return for the Cougars, I think it may work out best for him to go somewhere else, if he decides to keep playing.
