Heisman Trophy: Derrick Henry, Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffrey named finalists
The Heisman Trophy finalists are revealed and there are only three players vying for college football’s most prestigious individual honor.
Alabama Crimson Tide running back Derrick Henry was the betting favorite since Nov. 7 after his team beat LSU and Henry’s defense shutdown the previous front-runner, Leonard Fournette.
He has four 200-yard rushing games, broke the SEC single-season rushing record held by Herschel Walker and leads the nation in rushing yards with 1,986 and touchdowns with 23. He scored a touchdown in every game this season for the No. 2 team in the nation.

Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson has led his team to an undefeated record, ACC Championship and been the No. 1 team since the first playoff rankings were released earlier this year.
He’s a winner. But he’s also got some nice stats to boost his Heisman case. Watson has completed 69.5 percent of his passes for 3,512 yards, 30 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 159.56 rating. He’s also added 887 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
Stanford Cardinal all-purpose running back Christian McCaffrey broke Barry Sanders‘ single-season record for all-purpose yards this year with 3,496. He is second in the nation to Henry with 1,847 yards on the ground and was Stanford’s leading receiver with 540 yards. He has 13 total touchdowns on the year.
Notable snubs include LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette, Florida State Seminoles running back Dalvin Cook and Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield.
