Four-star defensive tackle Shavar Manuel commits to the Florida Gators.

Under Armour All-American defensive tackle Shavar Manuel (Bradenton, FL. IMG Academy) committed to Florida, according to 247Sports.

The 6-4, 290-pound Manuel is the nation’s No. 42 overall prospect, No. 7 defensive tackle and the No. 9 prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Manuel is the second-highest ranked recruit in their class, trailing only quarterback Feleipe Franks who is the No. 37 overall recruit.

He picked the Gators over offers Florida State and had offers from Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Ohio State, among others. Manuel should have an opportunity to earn a spot in the rotation on a Florida defensive line that projects to be playing a number of underclassmen.

Manuel posted a note on Twitter making his commitment public and reported by Luke Stampini of 247Sports. The commitment from Manuel gives Jim McElwain the nation’s No. 6 recruiting class overall and the No. 3 class in the SEC, trailing No. 1 LSU and No. 4 Alabama, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.

McElwain closes strong last year when he was named the head coach with National Signing Day commitments from Martez Ivey and CeCe Jefferson and has the Gators in shape to finish strong again with a top-five class that could help lead Florida to a second SEC East title in as many years for McElwain.
