Oklahoma Football News: Sooners schedule future series with Nebraska
The Oklahoma Sooners and Nebraska Cornhuskers agreed to revive their rivalry with two future dates.
Oklahoma and Nebraska used to be one of the fiercest rivalries in college football and outside of Texas-Oklahoma was the most significant rivalry in the old Big 8 and later the Big 12.

Due to Nebraska bolting the Big 12 for the Big Ten conference in a move that started a wave of conference realignment, that rivalry suffered a quick and painful death for the two fan bases and for casual college football fans who loved watching the Sooners and Huskers meeting on Thanksgiving back in the day.
The two teams will meet in 2021 and 2022 with each team hosting a game, but the two programs decided that just wasn’t enough and on Tuesday agreed to extend the rivalry with two more games in 2029 and 2030.
Oklahoma will host Nebraska on September 15 and Nebraska will host Oklahoma the next year on Sept. 14.
The 2021 game will be the first game between the Sooners and Huskers since the 2010 Big 12 Championship Game won by Oklahoma, 23-20, and the Sooners lead the all–time series 45-38-3. Hopefully, we’ll all still be alive by the time 2029-2030 rolls around.
And, hopefully, the continuation of this once proud rivalry will inspire some other programs to rekindle the rivalry games that they lost as a result of conference realignment. The Big 12 lost a lot of them so that’s a great place to start.
Texas-Texas A&M gets a lot of the attention for defunct rivalries from the Big 12, and rightfully so, but it isn’t the only one to fall by the wayside. The Border War with Kansas and Missouri was one of the best basketball rivalries but it was also a great rivalry when the two met on the gridiron. Colorado-Nebraska was another great rivalry game that took on a new life in the late 90s with the two meeting the day after Thanksgiving.
