USC football had a quieter National Signing Day as compared to recent years but they still hit a home run with the addition of five-star cornerback Jack Jones.

The USC Trojans have been the biggest winners over the last couple years on National Signing Day as they closed better than any other team in the nation, including last year when they had the No. 2 class in the country.

This year, USC didn’t have the same type of finish but Clay Helton and the Trojans still picked up an elite prospect in the form of five-star cornerback Jack Jones (Long Beach, CA. Long Beach Poly) to give the program their second highest-ranked recruit in the class behind No. 16 recruit Oluwole Betiku.

The 5-11, 164-pound Jones is the nation’s No. 22 overall recruit, No. 3 cornerback and the No. 4 recruit in the state of California, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Jones picked the local program over the Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide. He previously considered UCLA and Oklahoma before eliminating them in mid-December. Jones named USC his leader in the summer before his senior year started when he said the Trojans were the team to beat on July 14.

USC entered National Signing Day with the No. 20 class in the nation and surprisingly the No. 3 class in the Pac-12, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings. The class only had 13 commitments prior to National Signing Day as opposed to 20-plus like the teams ranked ahead of them in the rankings have.

But the Trojans rallied for a strong finish on National Signing Day to move up to the No. 8 class and the best class in the Pac-12 with Jones serving as the exclamation mark on what was a great day for USC football.
