National Signing Day 2016: Texas Longhorns land 4-Star Safety Brandon Jones (Video)
Texas got one of their big wishes on National Signing Day when 4-Star safety Brandon Jones announced he would be a Longhorn
Jones, from Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, Tx, has been considering most of the big Texas schools including TAMU, Texas and Baylor, who he named as his final three choices on Monday. He’s the No. 1 safety in the nation and the No. 40 overall prospect in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings.
His senior season was an impressive one, totaling 135 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, four pass break-ups, one interception, two forced fumbles and nine touchdowns scored. Texas’ defensive struggles made finding physical playmakers such as Jones a priority for Charlie Strong.
A bit undersized, but one of the speediest players in this year’s recruiting class, Jones is rated high on his ball skills and ability to play in tight coverage. It’s a sure thing that he’ll also be looked at as a return man on special teams, both areas of need for the Longhorns.
Texas had the No. 19 recruiting class coming into the day according to 247 Sports, and has been gathering momentum throughout the early going of National Signing Day. Charlie Strong filled a huge need with the commit of Jones to his program. They now have 20 total commits for the 2016 class.
