The Wisconsin Badgers added a quarterback to their 2017 recruiting class with the addition of three-star recruit Jack Coan.

Paul Chryst found his quarterback for the 2017 class with the verbal commitment from three-star quarterback Jack Coan (West Sayville, NY. Sayville) two weeks after taking an unofficial visit to Madison.

The 6-3, 190-pound Coan is the nation’s No. 397 overall recruit, No. 18 pro-style quarterback and the No. 3 recruit in the state of New York, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

“I really liked the visit,” Coan told Badger247. “I thought the campus was beautiful. The coaches were really great people. The facilities were all really, really nice. I really liked it.

“I was really impressed. I didn’t know a lot about Wisconsin going into it. I was definitely really amazed by how beautiful the city was and how great the football facilities were. Definitely very impressed.”

Coan picked the Badgers over offers from Nebraska, Northwestern, Rutgers, Boston College, and Louisville, among others.

He put up huge numbers last year as a junior when he threw for 3,431 yards and 40 touchdowns and aims to improve on them in his final prep season before heading to Wisconsin where he could be an early enrollee next winter.

Typically the New York area isn’t a hotbed for finding quarterbacks, but Coan could end up being the best quarterback from the area since Boomer Esiason more than 30 years ago.

Coan is the fifth commitment for Wisconsin’s 2017 recruiting class and the second highest-ranked player behind four-star offensive guard Kayden Lyles who is the No. 136 player overall.

With Coan in the fold, you can expect the quarterback to turn from recruited to recruiter for the Badgers and try to lure some top wide receivers, running backs and offensive linemen to play with him in Madison.

The class already has a good start with offensive linemen, as you would expect for Wisconsin, with guard Logan Bruss joining Lyles and 6-5, 280-pound tight end recruit Alex Fenton projects as an offensive lineman.
