Oklahoma Football: How to watch Sooners spring game
Spring game information for Bob Stoops and his Oklahoma football team as the Sooners look to begin their quest toward a second straight Big 12 title.
Baker Mayfield and his Oklahoma Sooners teammates are back in action today as they look to get off on the right foot for a successful 2016 season.
It was a great debut for Mayfield as the Sooners starting quarterback last year after transferring from Texas Tech. He was a borderline Heisman finalist and enters this year as one of the leading candidates to win the Trophy.
Helping Mayfield’s cause is the two-headed monster in the backfield where Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon bring balance to Lincoln Riley’s offense. Riley’s first year as the offensive coordinator saw Oklahoma put opposing defenses in unteniable position of trying to stop Perine and Mixon or Mayfield and departed receiver Sterling Shepard.
Replacing Shepard who is hoping to hear his name called early in the NFL Draft at the end of the month is one of the biggest question marks facing Stoops this spring. But the biggest question facing the Sooners is whether they can rebuild a defense that loses stars at all three levels.
Charles Tapper, Eric Striker and Zack Sanchez must all be replaced and how quickly and effectively they can replace that trio will go a long way toward determining Oklahoma’s chances of repeating as Big 12 champs.
