The Alabama recruiting class picked up the commitment from four-star wide receiver Tyrell Shavers as the Crimson Tide move closer to the top ranked class.

Another day, another commitment for Alabama. Per Ryan Bartow of 247Sports, 2017 four-star wide receiver Tyrell Shavers (Lewisville. Lewisville, TX) committed to the Tide Monday afternoon.

Shavers is the No. 159 player is the 17 class, No. 23 wide receiver, and the No. 23 player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He had a plethora of offers to choose from as he received 27 in total. However, wide receivers coach Billy Napier stood out from the pack as Shavers committed following an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa Monday.

“I enjoyed myself,” Shavers said. “Alabama is the National Champs. My recruitment is over. I’m playing for the best.”

With this commitment, the Tide 2017 troop keeps getting stronger. The addition of Shavers gives the Tide 10 four-star pledges and 14 total commitments. That is good for No. 2 nationally and No. 1 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Over the last two seasons, Shavers has certainly torn up the high school gridiron. Using every inch of his 6-foot-6, 202-pound frame, he caught 36 passes for 667 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

Those numbers were up significantly from 2014, as he caught 15 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns, establishing himself as a formidable red zone threat.

His height and speed will be advantages in the tough  SEC and he has the ability to become a primary target when he is on the field. We have seen first-hand the great job Alabama does in developing receivers, and there is a chance that Shavers could flourish within the Tide offense.
