Georgia RB Sony Michel suffers broken forearm, no timeline for return
Georgia Bulldogs running back Sony Michel has a broken forearm and his return to the team is unknown.
What should have been a celebratory day on the Fourth of July for Kirby Smart and his Georgia football team ended with the team facing an uncertain future in the backfield.
Georgia is already dealing with the ongoing recovery of Nick Chubb from knee surgery after he suffered a devastating injury on the first play from scrimmage against the Tennessee Volunteers last year. Chubb has said he’ll be ready for the Bulldogs season opener on September 3 against the North Carolina Tar Heels but that remains to be seen if he’ll be healthy enough to do so.
Now, last year’s leading rusher Sony Michel, is dealing with a broken forearm, reportedly suffered during an ATV accident, and has an unknown timetable for his return.

Michel led Georgia in rushing last year with 1,109 yards and eight touchdowns on 219 carries after he took over for the injured Chubb. He helped lead Georgia to a 9-3 record and a win over the Penn State Nittany Lions in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
Early reports indicated Michel could return in 8-12 weeks from the broken forearm. If it’s closer to the minimum recovery time, then there’s a chance he could be ready for the season opener. However, if it’s closer to the maximum projected recovery time, then he could return for the big SEC East clash against Tennessee.
Georgia needs both Chubb and Michel fully healthy if they’re going to win the SEC East and get to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game, especially with a true freshman in Jacob Eason expected to take the reins of the offense this year.
