The Tigers lose a potent playmaker that would have had a tremendous impact.
Just days after committing to Auburn 2017, four-star wide receiver Brandon Martin, who last played at Mississippi Gulf Coast decided late Wednesday evening that the Tigers were no longer a part of his plan. He announced his decision via Twitter and this news was confirmed by Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports.
He did not take the easy road in committing. Right from the get-go, Auburn was one of the teams that recruited Martin heavily during his recruitment process, but he signed with LSU instead. However, he did not qualify to play at LSU and instead ended up at MGCCC.
Martin in the No. 6 player in the ’17 class, the top receiver, and the No. 2 player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
After meeting with my family and coaches I am decommiting from Auburn to focus on academics and football

Why did Martin back out of his pledge? Per Niebuhr, he wanted to focus on academics and his football efforts at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Auburn visited Martin twice in the spring and he returned the favor visiting the Tigers once earlier this summer.
The decommitment of Martin shakes up the ’17 Tiger troop quite a bit. They now are down to 10 commitments and no receivers. Even with this development, the class is still strong and ranks No. 16 nationally and No. 7 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

The fact that Auburn has no receivers in the class up to this point could make things a little more difficult for the Tigers and force them to change their plan on the recruiting trail. Measuring in at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Martin possesses tremendous quickness and is tough to tackle. He would have been a tremendous playmaker for Auburn and the Tigers will have a bit of a challenge in trying to fill the void left by his decommitment.
