The LSU recruiting class added the commitment from five-star safety JaCoby Stevens.

The LSU Tigers received a big commitment on Monday from 2017 five-star safety JaCoby Stevens (Oakland, Murfreesboro, TN.) This news was first reported by Sonny Shipp of 247Sports.
Stevens is the No. 27 player in the 2017 class, No. 2 safety, and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Notching 31 offers in total, Stevens was recruited to the Tigers by defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Dave Aranda and secondary coach Corey Raymond.

On the LSU front, he was first offered by the program on April 24, 2014. He took visits to other programs and received offers but at that time, he remained true to LSU and committed a little more than a year later on September 23, 2015. Then in a surprising turn of events after visiting the campus on October 24, he decommitted on November 24.
He began the recruiting process again and took many visits heading into 2016, including one to Baton Rouge on March 29. Revealing a top 6 on June 1, LSU made the cut, and in turn that signified that they were still on his radar. Then Monday, he closed the book on his recruitment with a commitment to the Tigers.
With this pledge, the LSU 2017 recruiting class continues to add top talent. Stevens joins offensive tackle Austin Deculus (Cy-Fair, Cypress TX) as the only two five-star commitments in the class. LSU now has 19 commitments, putting them at No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Stevens is a tremendous coverage safety. He does a nice job of reading the quarterback’s eyes, reacting to the receiver, and making a play. He will fit well in LSU’s defensive scheme and should be able to contribute right away.
