TCU Football: Kenny Hill gets second chance with Horned Frogs
TCU named Texas A&M transfer Kenny Hill the team’s starting quarterback as he looks to make the most of his second chance.
In what has been a whirlwind collegiate career, TCU quarterback Kenny Hill can now reclaim the title of starting quarterback. After succeeding Johnny Manziel as the Texas A&M starting quarterback in 2014, Hill was named the starter for the Horned Frogs by head coach Gary Patterson and will make his debut under center September 3 at home against South Dakota State.
He competed with sophomore Foster Sawyer for the job and has the tall task of succeeding Trevone Boykin, TCU’s starter for the past three seasons and one who took the program to new heights.
If 2014, his sophomore season, is any indication, Hill should be in for a big year in 2016. He threw for 2,649 yards and 23 touchdowns in correlation with a 5-3 record as the starter in College Station which including a 511-yard game against South Carolina setting a school record.
The offensive firepower was extinguished momentarily however as he was suspended two games for a violation of team rules and athletic department policies.
What does he bring to the Horned Frogs? He brings efficiency and the ability to stretch the field. In 2014, he threw for an average of 8.3 yards per pass attempt to go along with a 66.7 completion percentage. He has the ability to put up numbers in a hurry and serve as the centerpiece of an offense. TCU is very fortunate to be able to transition from one playmaking quarterback to another.

It may take a few games, but Hill has the ability to deliver the same type of production Boykin did and because of this, I expect very little offensive drop-off once everything clicks which might be worrisome for the rest of the Big 12.
