Ohio State Football: Torrance Gibson suspended for year
Redshirt freshman Torrance Gibson has been suspended for the year by Ohio State.
The season has not even started yet, and the Ohio State Buckeyes are already down a man. It was announced on Monday that redshirt freshman wide receiver Torrance Gibson was suspended by the university for an unspecified violation. Head coach Urban Meyer made the announcement per a report from the Associated Press.
Why was he suspended? The reason at this time is unknown as it has not been made public. Perhaps even more interesting is the reaction from Meyer
“It was not from the athletic department or football (program),” Meyer said at weekly news conference. “I disagree with it.”
Gibson is known for being a tremendous all-around athlete. He was one of the most highly regarded recruits in the country and was a star quarterback for American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Now, he looks to see all of his efforts in transitioning to the wide receiver position pay off and use that athleticism to his advantage. The sad part for Gibson is his hard work on the football field won’t be realized this year as he sits out a crucial year of development.

He’s already trying to make a transition to a new position and will have to wait another year to get vital game reps against competition outside practice. Gibson is very much a wild card or an unknown moving forward. He could be a dynamic talent on the perimeter and be an NFL prospect. Conversely, his lack of work on the field means he could have too much rust to shake off when he does get his chance to show what he can do.
Ohio State opens the season against Bowling Green on September 3, at noon EST.
