First Overall Picks: Jake Long (2008), Tom Harmon (1941)

Other Notable First Round Picks: Leon Hall (2007), Braylon Edwards (2005), Steve Hutchinson (2001), Jeff Backus (2001), Charles Woodson (1998), Tyrone Wheatley (1995), Ty Law (1995), Derrick Alexander (1994), Desmond Howard (1992), Jim Harbaugh (1987), Jon Giesler (1979), Mike Kenn (1978), Dave Brown (1975), Tom Mack (1966)

The Michigan Wolverines are making a lot of headlines under second-year coach Jim Harbaugh, who is among the list of great players to come out of Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines have taken a defensive identity under Harbaugh, but for many years Big Blue was known for sending lightning fast wide receivers and running backs on to the NFL (as well as a few defensive and special teams stars).

But when you’ve sent 351 players on to the pros, it’s expected that a few won’t quite make the grade. That was the case with the number eight overall pick in 2001, David Terrell, who played wide receiver for a few short seasons, but never really materialized the way the Bears had hoped.

But thanks to names like Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson, those few and far between draft busts are easily forgotten, making Michigan one of the best at preparing players for a pro career.
