Arkansas vs TCU recap: 3 things that we learned
What three things did we learn from Saturday evening’s big Arkansas vs TCU game in Fort Worth?
TCU opened the season with a 59-41 victory over South Dakota State, but glaring issues popped up in the Horned Frogs’ defense. Allowing 41 points to an FCS squad and fighting it out until the end is not the best look for a team looking to win the Big 12 this season.
With Texas A&M transfer Kenny Hill looking to fill in for the departed Trevone Boykin, the Horned Frogs still have plenty of talent to push for a playoff spot, but a big game loomed on Saturday night against a pesky Arkansas team at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Arkansas took a 13-0 lead before TCU finally got on the board in the second half. Bret Bielema’s Razorbacks were doing a good job of stymying the Horned Frogs on the road and that continued through the third quarter, leading 20-7.
The Horned Frogs scored a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to pull within six and it looked like an instant classic was brewing. TCU took the lead in the final stages of the fourth, 21-20. Another touchdown tacked on with about two minutes seemed to be the nail in the coffin, but Arkansas answered right back with a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion.
During overtime, both teams scored a touchdown in the first free period. However, a field goal for TCU in the second OT gave way to Arkansas’ Austin Allen to score on a five-yard quarterback keeper to win.

What did we learn from Saturday night’s game between TCU and Arkansas?
1. Consistency is Kenny Hill’s issue
Kenny Hill might be one of the more exciting players in the country, but the fact that he’s so inconsistent might end up hurting the Horned Frogs in the long run — maybe not as much as their defense, though. Hill did account for 377 passing yards and another 93 rushing yards with three total touchdowns, but his accuracy was a concern, as well as his decision-making.
2. Rawleigh Williams III is an effective runner
Despite the rest of the offense going silent, sophomore running back Rawleigh Williams III has emerged as the top running back. After a relatively ineffective first game against Louisiana Tech (24 carries for 96 yards), Williams III finished with 137 on 28 carries. If Arkansas’ offense continues to struggle, it will be nice to see him increase his yards per carry to help out. He is becoming more effective in the backfield.
3. TCU will be flirting with danger all season
If the first two weeks have been this close, the TCU Horned Frogs might be in for a long season. The Big 12 is one of the toughest conferences in the nation and there are plenty of superior teams compared to Arkansas and South Dakota State in it. TCU will be flirting with danger all season long. This was a tough home loss.
