Georgia has already started the Kirby Smart era off the right way. The ninth-ranked Bulldogs jumped from 18th in the rankings after an opening week victory over then-No. 22 North Carolina. The Bulldogs showed just why they belong in the SEC title talks and might even contend for a playoff spot.

Starting true freshman quarterback, and former five-star, Jacob Eason for the first time on Saturday will be a true test for his future, but it could end up paying off big-time. The first-year player finished with 131 yards and a touchdown on 8-of-12 completions against the Tar Heels.

It was Nick Chubb, though, who finished as the star of week one, rushing for a game-high 222 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. He looks poised to carry on the tradition of elite Georgia running backs and contend for a Heisman.

The FCS’ Nicholls State will open the season on Saturday against the Bulldogs and for those who watched ‘Last Chance U’ on Netflix this summer, two familiar faces will be featured on the Colonels’ defense in Ronald Ollie and Marcel Andry. The two will be making their debuts on the defensive line.

Georgia could make this a very lopsided game if it plays to its potential. Nicholls State is just hoping to keep the score close on the road.
