The Illinois Fighting Illini honored fallen Nebraska punter Sam Foltz prior to Saturday’s game by giving the Cornhuskers a custom made Foltz Illini jersey signed by the team.
The entire college football world has been mourning the loss of Nebraska Cornhuskers punter Sam Foltz, who was killed in a car accident along with former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler.
Teams have been paying their respect every week to honor Foltz, and Saturday was no exception. In fact, the Illinois Fighting Illini might have come up with one of the most thoughtful ways to pay tribute to the fallen punter.
Prior to Saturday’s game against Nebraska, the Illinois special teams unit including senior long snapper Michael Martin came out to meet the Cornhuskers special teams unit. The Illini brought out a signed custom made Foltz Illini jersey. Martin also had some kind words to say to the Cornhuskers, which you can check out in the video below.
The entire college football family has shown its unity in support of the Cornhuskers for playing through such a tragedy. Other teams have paid tribute as well, including the Oregon Ducks a few weeks ago when they left flowers at the 27-yard line before the game. The 27 was Foltz’s number while he was playing for Nebraska.
Foltz and Sadler has been returning from a kicking camp that they were helping out at when they were killed in a car accident this summer. Both teams have been struggling with the losses, but have continued to play through it for their fallen teammates.
