Who would have thought the Oklahoma Sooners would be in the position to jump into the top 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings after their 1-2 start to the season? I’ll admit, I was ready to write them off, dubbing their season dead after just three weeks, but they have since come back to prove me wrong.

In fact, the Sooners have won six straight games and are 7-2 on the season with a perfect 6-0 record in Big 12 action.

The losses to Houston and Ohio State aren’t exactly bad, although the Cougars have dropped off considerably since the first half of the year. The Buckeyes are a top-five team in the nation and that loss is looking better by the week. It’s odd to even say it, but the committee takes into consideration how good or bad the losses of each team are.

Just look at last week’s top-four rounded out with Texas A&M. The Aggies’ lone loss this season was to Alabama and the committee believed that was better than Washington’s unbeaten record with no tough wins.

The Sooners are rolling right now and as long as Baker Mayfield is playing at this high level, they might be representing the Big 12 as playoff invitees.
