Texas Longhorns reportedly considering boycotting TCU game

Amidst all of the rumors surrounding the future for Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong, some players are reportedly considering sitting out the TCU game.
It has been another tough season for the Texas Longhorns under head coach Charlie Strong. With all of the rumors suggesting the Strong will be fired after this season, the locker room is reportedly getting tense.
Kirk Bohls from the Austin American-Statesman reported on Monday that there are a number of Longhorns players who are considering boycotting Friday’s rivalry game and regular season finale against the TCU Horned Frogs.
“Some of the team is threatening to boycott the TCU game,” Bohls’ source said. “Older players are trying to settle things down.”
Recent reports have suggested that Strong has already been fired from the program, although nothing has been confirmed by the university. Strong’s seat was already red hot, and a 24-21 loss in overtime to a Kansas Jayhawks team that was 1-9 entering last week essentially sealed his fate.
Strong’s departure is all but guaranteed, but apparently there are a number of players who are upset with that decision. Unfortunately for the players, that’s not their decision, and a program like Texas expects a lot more from its team than a 5-6 record heading into the final game of the season.

On the bright side, the Longhorns still have a chance to play in a bowl game with a win against the Horned Frogs on Friday. However, that’s easier said than done, and there’s no guarantee that Strong will be coaching in a bowl game even if they make it to one.
