Ole Miss football announced late Thursday night that head coach Hugh Freeze has resigned effective immediately — Matt Luke named interim coach.

To say that the last year, year and a half has been turbulent for Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss would be an understatement. It all seems to have come to a head now, as Freeze has decided to leave his position immediately.

Freeze has been embroiled in controversy during the schools long-standing NCAA investigation, which had already cost Barney Farrar, a member of Freeze’s coaching staff his job. It also cost Ole Miss the chance at a bowl game this season. Not to mention scholarship reduction, and reduced recruiting time for coaches and less unofficial visit dates.

Freeze first came under scrutiny when he and his staff signed a top 10 recruiting class in 2013 and the NCAA investigation ensued and seemingly never ended.

Matt Luke, who was co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, will take over as the interim head coach for the Rebels during the 2017 season. The 2017 season was already a seemingly dire and going nowhere type of season. Freeze’s departure certainly changes everything from the outcome of the NCAA investigation to the outcome of the 2017

Barrett Sallee broke the news on Thursday evening and more shocking details continue to come out. Allegedly, Freeze called an escort service on a university phone.
