Florida Football Recruiting: 5-star QB Matt Corral commits to Gators
Five-star QB Matt Corral has committed to Florida football over the likes of Alabama, Georgia, UCLA and USC.
If you don’t know who Matt Corral is, go to his Twitter page and watch his Hudl video. He has a cannon of an arm and makes throws most people can’t, or just won’t, attempt. Last year, as a junior, he showed off that cannon by throwing for over 3,000 yards. He also threw for 22 touchdowns on only three interceptions.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound QB also can hurt teams using his mobility. Last year he had over 300 yards rushing and seven rushing touchdowns.
Corral, the nation’s second-best quarterback, picked Florida over the likes of Georgia, USC, Alabama, Michigan, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and UCLA.
Next fall, when he comes to Gainesville, Fla., he should have a great chance to play right away. Corral might not be able to sure up Florida’s quarterback issue in 2017, but he should bring some hope to Gator faithful in 2018. It is well-known that the Gators still don’t know who will be quarterbacking their team in 2017.
Many people believe that transfer Malik Zaire will come in and take the job. And if he does, redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks will have to sit and wait another season to get his chance or transfer and move-on.
At the high school level, Corral has shown Florida that he can eliminate the errors, but he is also not afraid to throw the ball deep down the field. And with a receiver, like Tyree Cleveland, Florida could look to open a bigger down-field passing game.
Florida needs better competition at the quarterback position and Corral, a former USC commit, wants the chance to start early. It looks like a match made in heaven. But nothing is official until the National Signing Day in February.

But for now Corral will be focused finishing his senior year of high school football and then going to San Antonio to play in the U.S. Army All-American game. The Gators got a future superstar.
