Week Zero, as some have taken to call it, has a much smaller slate of games on the docket. The biggest names playing on Saturday are Stanford (in Australia) and South Florida. But it was a game between Texas Southern Tigers of the SWAC and Florida A&M Rattlers of the MEAC that produced the first score of the 2017 season.

After a back and forth first quarter it was Florida A&M that punched in the first FCS score of the season. Rattlers quarterback Ryan Stanley drove the team down the field late in the first quarter and kept the ball himself, taking around the right end for the score. Watch the rest of the action on ESPNU.

It might not be the full meal that college football fans had been hoping for, but it’s a nice appetizer for what promises to be another thrilling year of college football.  The real meat of the schedule kicks off Labor Day weekend with Alabama vs. Florida State setting up to be one the premier games of the season. Also of note is Michigan vs. Florida and BYU vs. LSU.
