The 2017 Florida football team is undeniably talented but they are also undeniably troubled with two more facing discipline.

Crikey. I’m not sure what is going on in Gainesville. Maybe there is something in the water, or maybe there is a huge influx of Rastafarian adherents. Seven Florida Gator players have already been suspended for the season opener against a tough Michigan team. Now, two more Gator players have gotten nailed for offseason foolishness — namely, smoking pot.

According to CBS Sports, Gator wide receiver James Robinson and linebacker Ventrell Miller were cited with misdemeanor marijuana possession on Monday. They were in their off-campus apartment when a residential assistant smelled marijuana and called campus police.

Both players have been in trouble before. One of the players, Miller, was one of the students that have been suspended from play because of some sort of debit-card fiasco. Robinson has also been cited before — for marijuana. This is now the second player on the Gator football team to have multiple citations. Antonio Callaway has been in trouble before. In fact, he was cited earlier this year for marijuana possession, and was also suspended for the upcoming Michigan game.

The Gators might be in trouble against Michigan with another receiver out — Robinson would have replaced Callaway (already suspended) in the season opener.

According to Florida head coach Jim McElwain, “We have a small group of players that have made some choices that are extremely disappointing. Action has been taken – they have missed some practice and will miss the Michigan game. We will use this as a learning opportunity and we will have some players step up as we move forward.”

Major understatement, Jim. Maybe get Steve Spurrier back down there — you never saw this kind of nonsense when he was the head coach. Regardless, the Gators need to get their players in line or they’ll have no one left.
