Stanford football traveled to Los Angeles on Saturday evening in a tough Pac-12 rivalry game but it was the Bryce Love show early.
All aboard the Bryce Love for Heisman hype train. If you don’t jump aboard soon, it’s going to leave the station. Through 30 minutes Love has absolutely torched the USC defense to the tune of 141 yards and a touchdown.
In case you don’t recall, Love had a monster game in Week 0 against Rice over in Australia. His first run of the season was a 62-yard dash against the Owls and he saw much of the same against Stanford in the first half. In fact, he took his first handoff 75 yards to the house, tying the game at seven in the first.
Love has now broken the 300-yard mark on the season in rushing yards, filling in quite nicely for the departed Christian McCaffrey. Not many believed that McCaffrey would be adequately replaced, but those who watched Love run last season knew he was capable of putting up big numbers, if given the opportunity.
Although the Cardinal are losing to the Trojans in a big early-season Pac-12 rivalry game with potential playoff implications, there’s plenty time to make up the 11-point deficit.
On the other side, Sam Darnold also got his Heisman campaign off to a good start with a big first half showing. He passed for 225 yards and three touchdowns against a talented Stanford secondary.

Can Love steal the show in the second half and make up ground on the 28-17 deficit? If he does, expect Heisman talk to dominate the headlines.
