Baylor isn’t just in danger of missing out on a bowl game. The Bears are in danger of missing out on winning a single game this season. Matt Rhule’s first season in Waco is devolving into an unmitigated disaster after an 0-2 start. The postseason is a distant pipe dream at this point for a Baylor squad in total disarray.

The Bears collapsed in their season opener against Liberty. The Flames, a team transitioning from the FCS to the FBS despite nobody wanting to invite them into a conference at the higher level, scored a huge victory to begin the year. It was the first time LIberty had ever defeated a team from the FBS, and it sent Baylor into a downward spiral.

That spiral continued in Week 2, as the Bears welcomed UTSA to McLane Stadium. In Week 1, the Roadrunners had to cancel their home opener at the Alamodome against Houston due to Hurricane Harvey. As a result, Baylor became UTSA’s first win of the season. Arizona transfer Anu Solomon looked uncertain at quarterback, completing 10 of 26 passes for 121 yards with a score and a pick.

Now winless after their first two games, the opportunities for wins are drying up for Rhule as he transitions to life as a Power Five coach. A bowl game is not even worth thinking about until Baylor can get even a single victory.
