4. The TCU defense is for real

Arkansas is a very physical team on both sides of the ball, but the TCU defense held them to 267 total yards. And this is right after they held Jackson State to a total of 65 yards. That is astounding, especially from a Big 12 defense — a league not known for it’s defensive fire power.

The Frogs notched three sacks in the game against Arkansas, one each by Ridwan Issahaku, Ben Banogu and Corey Bethley. The thought that everyone is getting involved with the Horned Frog defense and everyone is contributing is huge for TCU. A good, full defense where everyone makes a contribution on a weekly basis will always be more successful than one with one or two bright stars. Just ask Alabama.

Many sited the physicality of Arkansas as the reason they would win this one, they had the right reason but the wrong team. TCU was extremely physical from moment one and that is shown on the scoreboard and every defender had wonderful things to say about their coaching staff and the growth that they have shown because of them.

If TCU can continue this level of physicality throughout the season and just keep competing from the first snap to the last, this team could be for real. If there is one thing we are sure about for TCU it’s that even if the whole team isn’t for real, the defense sure is and that will be shown against SMU next week and beyond.
