Sam Ehlinger is better than Shane Buechele

Okay, this one isn’t positive. Not at all. The two performances truly shouldn’t be comparable. Ehlinger did however, do one thing this season that seasoned starter Bucehele didn’t – win. It wasn’t an all out perfect performance by any means, in fact he was carried by his running game as he only completed about half of his passes, but it was enough.

Buechele was ruled out after he bruised his shoulder in the loss to Maryland. He did not throw all week, but was not fully ruled out until an hour before game time. He is only 5-8 as a Longhorn starter, not exactly what the fans in burnt orange want to hear.

Buechele did set a Texas freshman record last season with nearly 3,000 passing yards and 21 touchdowns and finished with 375 yards and two touchdowns against Maryland, so he isn’t by any means a bad quarterback. He just hasn’t had his numerical success echoed in the win and loss column.

The question now is this, if Buechele is available to play Saturday against USC do you let the seasoned veteran play or do you go with the freshman who had an impressive performance the week before? Only time will tell, but I’d vote for Ehlinger.
