Ole Miss Football: Patterson and Brown one of the best WR-QB duos
The Ole Miss football program has found themselves quite the combination on offense with Shea Patterson and A.J. Brown leading the way.
The Ole Miss football program is winding up with a pretty nice start to the 2017 college football season. Sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson is having himself a Heisman-caliber season just one year after getting throw into the fire after an injury to former quarterback Chad Kelly.
Not only is Patterson having a career year, but sophomore receiver A.J. Brown is leading the nation in receiving yards. Brown has caught 16 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns through two games. Patterson has thrown for 918 yards and nine touchdowns with only one interception.
If the Ole Miss Rebels were eligible to play in a bowl game this year they would be garnering more national attention right now. Their offense is having quite the year. And, aside from being put on upset alert in the first half of last week’s game against UT-Martin, they’ve had nearly a perfect season so far.
Without much help from the ground game, Patterson and Brown have taken complete control of the offense. While Brown is leading the country in receiving yards, Patterson is second in the country in passing yards and tied for first with UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen in passing touchdowns.
This week, Ole Miss faces their toughest opponent of the season in the California Golden Bears. Cal already took down a Power Five opponent in the North Carolina Tar Heels in Week 1. However, Cal does not have a great secondary and they will put up points. Patterson and Brown will have another big week.
This quarterback-wide receiver duo is showing that they’re one of the most potent combinations in the country. Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph and James Washington and Washington’s Jake Browning and Dante Pettis have not even put up the type of numbers that Brown and Patterson have. SEC West defenses should be having nightmares about facing them in 2017.
