Stanford Football: 3 bold predictions for San Diego State game
By Zach Bigalke
After losing to USC, Stanford football faces Mountain West champ San Diego State in Week 3. Here are bold predictions for the showdown with the Aztecs.
Stanford fell five spots down the AP Top 25 after a 42-24 loss at then-No. 6 USC ended their shot at a perfect season. The Cardinal are still very much among the top teams in the country, though. David Shaw’s team slotted in at No. 19 in the most recent polls, but this weekend marks a crossroads for the Pac-12 contender.
After playing in Australia and in Los Angeles, Stanford continues its road show to San Diego this weekend. The Cardinal take on a San Diego State team that remains undefeated through its first two games. As the two-time defending Mountain West champion, the Aztecs are a contender for the Group of Five’s bid in a New Year’s Six bowl.
If they take down Stanford, though, it would vault the Aztecs to another level. Rocky Long’s team is playing to climb up into the polls. Beating the Cardinal would give San Diego State a second straight win over a Pac-12 team after they downed Arizona State in Tempe last weekend. Despite being an 8.5-point favorite on the road, Stanford is going to be tested as much as they were against the Trojans last week.
Will the Cardinal rebound, or will the Aztecs get another statement win in their quest to build a New Year’s Six case? Click ahead for three bold predictions about how things will transpire at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday night between Stanford and San Diego State.
