Florida Football: Gators find enough offense to stun Tennessee
The Florida football program might have just won the game of the year with their miracle passing touchdown to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers.
The No. 24 Florida Gators made a statement today with their win over the No. 23 Tennessee Volunteers. It’s not much of a surprise that the Gators walked away with the win since they were favored by 6.5 points. It seems like every time the Gators and Vols meet, the second half is electric.
Florida controlled the pace of play for most of the game. Tennessee running back John Kelly did not let the Vols fall too far behind. Since the Florida defense played so well, both offenses ended up struggling. Junior quarterback Quinten Dormady threw three interceptions.

Missed field goals cost the Vols in the end. This one was separated by no more than one possession for most of the game, until the fourth quarter. The skill position players for the Gators won them the game on offense. Florida has so many talented athletes it’s hard for any defense to stop.
After Florida’s more than decade long winning streak was broken by Joshua Dobbs, Alvin Kamara, and the Vols last year, the Gators responded in a big way. Not to mention, Florida really needed a victory over a top 25 opponent after their 33-16 defeat to the No. 7 Michigan Wolverines in Week 1. Especially with how much Michigan has struggled since.
This was one of the greatest games of the day as it looked as if Florida would carry the game into overtime with a conservative final drive from head coach Jim McElwain. However, Franks chucked one downfield that was caught in the end zone by receiver Tyrie Cleveland.
The sight of losing on the final play is a bit of a role reversal for Butch Jones. Tennessee did the same thing to Georgia last year.
Now, let’s take a look at three takeaways from Florida’s win over Tennessee.
