After losing a tough Pac-12 opener to USC, Stanford football hit the road in Week 3 and was upset by San Diego State.

On a night when Bryce Love could seemingly do no wrong, Stanford football couldn’t do much else offensively, falling on the road to upset-minded San Diego State.

The Cardinal struggled on offense, led by gunslinger Keller Chryst. He couldn’t find open receivers all night long, going just 9-for-20 with 72 yards and two interceptions. His last interception sealed the game as he tossed the ball down field, missing his receiver short with just under a minute to play.

If Stanford wants to have any chance at a Pac-12 title moving forward, Chryst needs to lead this team more effectively in times of adversity. With Stanford on upset alert in the second half, he seemed to crumble under the pressure and the final interception to seal the Aztecs’ win was ugly.

Sure, his receiver should have made a better attempt to go back for the ball and maybe break up the interception attempt, but it was a poor throw, nonetheless.

Love carried the offense on Saturday, there’s no doubt about that. Once again, he put on a show for Cardinal fans, weaving in and out of defenders to the tune of 184 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries. This kid could carry the offense if he has to, but he will need at least an average game out of his quarterback to do so.

Chryst needs to step up next week as the Cardinal host UCLA who is also coming off an upset at the hands of the Memphis Tigers. Who will shake off the bad vibes?
