Florida vs Kentucky: 3 bold predictions for Week 4 SEC bout
By Shelbie Warr
2. The game will come down to the leg of Austin MacGinnis
This is nothing new for Kentucky kicker Austin MacGinnis, who has been winning and tying games with his leg for three plus years now. Currently, MacGinnis is 23 points away from becoming the Wildcats overall leading scorer. He is currently 2nd behind Lones Seiber, who scored 305 career points from 2006 through 2009. Not too shabby.
He is most well known for three separate kicks. First, his 51 yarder against Florida as a redshirt freshman that would tie the game in the fourth quarter. Second and third, his game winners against Mississippi State and Louisville last season.
Last week, MacGinnis was responsible for eleven points against the South Carolina Gamecocks to put the game on ice, one that the Wildcats won by 10. He also made two pretty strong tackles on kick off returns that saved touchdowns that would have been game changers.
Coach Stoops said, as shown above, he’d have no problem with the game coming down to the leg of MacGinnis. He’s apparently hit sixty yarders in practice, which is pretty good to note for a guy who could deliver the game winner and the end of a 30 game losing streak.
MacGinnis is currently the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against the Gamecocks last weekend.
