1. Luke Del Rio is a bad quarterback

Del Rio went 5-1 as the Gators’ starter in 2016, but he was never that effective. Florida is Del Rio’s third school. If he was really all that great why would he have been allowed to move on by Nick Saban at Alabama or a struggling Oregon State team?

Oregon State has already lost to Colorado State this season and needed a late rally to beat FCS-foe Portland State at home. You can’t knock a player for jumping ship for the opportunity to be the quarterback at the University of Florida. However, you can’t help but wonder what’s going on with three transfers and zero complete seasons as a starter anywhere among them.

Del Rio threw eight touchdowns and eight interceptions as the Gators’ starter last season. He owns a career 57.2 completion percentage and Florida so far and tacked on one more touchdown and another interception so far in 2017.

He lost the starting job out of the gate to a freshman. When the Gators went to their second stringer to provide a spark against Michigan it wasn’t Del Rio that stepped foot on the field. This is a desperation Hail Mary by McElwain. It has nothing to do with the college football ability of Luke Del Rio.
