After scoring on the first six drives of the game, Urban Meyer decided that he had seen enough from his senior signal-caller and made the executive decision to take Barrett out of the game to prevent any injuries that could unfold while facing off against a desperate team in the second half. In Week 5, Barrett could again find himself playing an equally abbreviated number of minutes against Rutgers.
It’s no secret that Rutgers has been in the Big Ten’s basement since joining the conference in 2014. Even with first year offensive coordinator Jerry Kill and second year defensive coordinator Jay Niemann now trying to help right the ship, the Scarlet Knights have only managed a to win one game so far this season.
While J.T. Barret looks primed to continue to stake his claim for the mantle of the best quarterback in the conference and someone who deserves a place on an NFL roster next season, he will have to do it again in limited action this week as the Buckeyes look committed to giving freshman backup quarterback Dwayne Haskins extended looks in blowout victories.
