2. The Texas offense is not strong enough to survive conference play

The Big 12, led by Oklahoma and TCU, is a high scoring league to say the least. Defenses tend to be lack luster and as such games are extremely high scoring. The Texas offense put up 17 against Iowa State. Iowa State. That isn’t exactly equivalent to dominant in a conference that is built on offense.

That’s not to say that they can’t figure it out as they get into the thick of conference play, but as it stands right now I don’t see them getting too far this season. Even with Tom Herman now at the helm, the Longhorns are going to struggle down the stretch.

Shane Buechele has been sacked seven times on the season already. If the Texas offensive line, which has been shuffled around quite a bit in recent weeks, doesn’t get it together that number will only increase. As the game wore on, even though they found the end zone twice, the offense seemed just confused.

When your defense forces three turnovers and you only put up 17 points, you have a problem. When you turn the ball over twice against Iowa State of all teams, you have a problem. Texas has a lot to figure out and fast if they want to survive conference play.
