UCLA Football: Josh Rosen loses top target Caleb Wilson for season
By Dana Becker
Two years ago, most viewed UCLA football’s quarterback Josh Rosen as a can’t-miss quarterback prospect.
After a rough season in 2016 that ended early due to injury, Rosen once again appeared well on his way to reaching that elite level. If he’s going to get there now, Rosen will have to do it without his second-leading receiver and his security blanket in tight end Caleb Wilson. The redshirt sophomore has been lost for the season due to an injury.
Wilson suffered a foot injury in the fourth quarter of a 27-23 win for the Bruins this past Saturday night over Colorado. He finishes the year with 38 catches for 490 yards and a touchdown.
On Instagram, Wilson, who was recently added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, stated that “there is no doubt I’ll be there” to help his UCLA teammates move on without him.
“I will never understand why certain obstacles are placed in front of us, but this is something I WILL conquer,” he added. “Putting on this UCLA jersey and going to war with my brothers is one of the greatest honors I’ve had in my life time. I love this team so much, and cannot thank them enough for the love and support they have for me.”
Before the injury, Wilson had six grabs for 65 yards. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder from Dallas had 15 receptions for 208 yards in that memorable Week 1 come-from-behind win over Texas A&M. After back-to-back three-catch games vs. Hawaii and Memphis, Wilson again broke loose for 11 catches and 145 yards in a loss to Stanford.

“I know the lord would not give me anything that I cannot handle,” he wrote. “I am built for this.”
In 2016, Wilson had just 16 catches and 220 yards. Darren Andrews, the leading receiver for the Bruins, along with Jordan Lasley and Theo Howard will be asked to do even more in the coming weeks.
