A reeling Ole Miss football squad travels to the plains to take on Auburn. Here’s our preview of this SEC West matchup and how you can watch the game.

This matchup presents two very different teams. On one side, you have the Auburn Tigers who are currently looking like the complete team most thought they would be at the beginning of the year. On the other side you have the Ole Miss Rebels who are not looking too hot after consecutive losses to Cal and Alabama, the latter of which was a 66-3 beatdown. Regardless of where these teams are headed, we could be in for a good game this Saturday.

I say ‘could’ loosely. But honestly, the potential is there. Auburn, while they’re hot now, has played down to its competition before. While the Ole Miss offense might be in a slump right now, they have the potential for big plays pretty much at any time. While the offenses can be streaky, the defenses for both teams are not. Auburn is very sound on defense and Ole Miss has problems. Like I said, this could be a good game or it could be an Auburn blowout.

Keys to Victory

In order for Ole Miss to get a victory then they have to play the type of football that they played in 2015. Yes, that is a tall order but not impossible.

The offense has to get out of whatever funk it’s in. There is way too much talent on that offense for them to score three points, even if the opponent was Alabama. Shea Patterson has to get things going with AJ Brown once again, do that and the offense will open up. Ole Miss found some semblance of a ground game against Alabama (go figure) hopefully for them, that carries over to Auburn.

Auburn has to come out on offense and do more of what they did to Mississippi State. Jarrett Stidham was at his best and the offense was rolling. If Auburn comes out like that then this game could be over earlier.

On defense, I expect Auburn to be as good as it has been all season. If that remains true, then they’ll be able to get the stops needed to win this game.

Prediction

While this game has certain elements that might incline me to say there was a possible chance at an upset for the Rebels, I just don’t see it happening. The Rebels might surprise us and even give in a real effort and give Auburn a game, but from what I’ve seen going into this game, that won’t happen. I expect Auburn to start slow but pull away shortly before the half.

Final Score: Auburn 42, Ole Miss 27
