If the Auburn Tigers dominate this weekend, Ole Miss football star quarterback Shea Patterson will be in trouble for the rest of SEC play.

Ole Miss football is in an interesting position after an embarrassing 66-3 defeat at the hands of the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5. This week, the Rebels face the No. 12 Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium. It’s also the second consecutive SEC road game for Ole Miss and the third consecutive road game overall.

Sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson was putting up huge numbers until halftime against the Cal Golden Bears. The last six quarters have not been friendly to Patterson and the Ole Miss offense. In the last six quarters, the Rebels have managed only six points.

Patterson is too talented of a quarterback to be held off the scoreboard any more. The return of sophomore wide receiver A.J. Brown against Alabama did not do much. However, Brown will have a big impact against Auburn. Ole Miss does still have a very good receiving corps.

Up until halftime of the Cal game hit, Patterson had tossed 11 touchdowns and only two interceptions. Since then, he’s thrown four picks and completed less than half of his passes. That trend will change before it’s too late for the Rebels against Auburn.

The way that the Auburn defense shut down the Mississippi State Bulldogs and quarterback Nick Fitzgerald was very impressive. Fitzgerald did not have a good run against either Auburn or the Georgia Bulldogs. Auburn, Georgia, and Alabama do seem to have the best defenses in the SEC.

Patterson is now playing for momentum for the Rebels entering the 2018 season. He’s also fighting for his NFL Draft stock if he decides to leave Oxford, Miss., early after the 2018 campaign. He’ll have to show up big in these types of matchups to impress NFL scouts.
