Iowa State Football: Cyclones plant flag at midfield after upset of Oklahoma
By Dana Becker
Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma got served by Iowa State football Saturday afternoon in stunning fashion.
The Cyclones completed a thrilling 38-31 upset of the Sooners and placed an exclamation point on the day by planting the state of Iowa flag at the 50.
Yes, you read that correctly: the state of Iowa flag was placed by an ISU player directly at midfield in Norman, Oklahoma and Memorial Stadium.
A few weeks back, Mayfield did the same in Columbus after the Sooners dropped Ohio State, sticking the OU flag in the field.
We don’t know right now, but maybe there just wasn’t an actual Iowa State flag in the stadium for the team to grab, but if there wasn’t, why would an official state of Iowa flag be present?
Maybe this was all a planned ordeal the Cyclones orchestrated if they pulled off the upset, which is possibly the biggest in school history after entering the game as 31-point underdogs.
Back when Oklahoma State had Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackman, they were shocked in Ames by the Cyclones. The Cowboys entered that contest as 28-point favorites and left without a chance to compete for the national title.
Saturday’s win isn’t a killer for Oklahoma, as they still have the Ohio State win on the resume and play both Oklahoma State and Texas down the road.
It does, however, give Matt Campbell and the Cyclones a huge momentum boost and realistic chance at playing in a bowl later this year.
The win snapped the nation’s longest win streak at 14 for Oklahoma, and also ended an 18-game win streak for the Sooners vs. Iowa State.

And for all your trivia buffs out there, let us not forget that the starting quarterback for the Cyclones was redshirt senior Kyle Kempt, who was promoted days ago when regular starter Jacob Park left the team due to a medical issue.
A shocking upset and a crazy flag-planting all in one game.
