Virginia Tech football bounced back from a loss to Clemson with a methodical and relatively easy win over Boston College on the road in Week 6.

The Hokies struck early against Boston College and extended their lead bit by bit, putting the game out of reach early for the weak Eagle offense. Virginia Tech quarterback Josh Jackson connected with Sean Savoy for a 53-yard score to put the Hokies ahead 7-0. They never looked back.

Virginia Tech would extend the lead with at least one score in each quarter for the rest of the ball game. The running attack was muffled by the Eagles’ front seven which put the burden of keeping drive alive on Jackson. He completed 22-of-33 passes for 322 yards with the aforementioned touchdown and one interception.

Boston College couldn’t get anything going all night. The Eagles were 2-for-15 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth down. They completed 14-of-33 passes and lost the time of possession battle, holding the ball for roughly 26 minutes.

Where BC did succeed was on the ground, carrying the ball for 154 yards on 32 attempts, good for a 4.8 yards per carry clip. With the deficit growing quickly early on, they weren’t able to use the ground game with much success. Boston College went three-and-out on every position in the second half, save for two. One was a three play drive that resulted in a fumble. The other was an 11-play drive that ended on downs.

Virginia Tech enters their bye week 5-1 and 1-1 in ACC play. They’ll have UNC and Duke after the break before their toughest remaining test, Miami on Nov. 4. If the Hokies can win that one and take care of business against teams like Boston College they should find themselves in the ACC Title game once again.
