Sophomore Will Grier is not getting the attention he deserves with the type of numbers he’s put up to help this talented West Virginia football team.

West Virginia football could have used a victory over the TCU Horned Frogs in Week 6. However, TCU is proving they’re the class of the Big 12 after victories over both West Virginia and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. West Virginia is still alive in the Big 12 with a quarterback like Will Grier behind center.

So far, Grier tossed 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions with 1,740 passing yards. Grier has already eclipsed his 10 passing touchdown mark from his freshman season with the Florida Gators in 2015. And, Grier played in six games that year with only five so far in 2017.

Grier is in the top 15 in almost every passing category in the country. He’s also added another 140 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. One of the most underrated parts of Grier’s game is his rushing ability. It gives an already versatile West Virginia offense another threat.

The production Grier is putting up should not decline anytime soon. He has so many weapons on offense and one of the toughest defenses in the Big 12 out of the way now. A running back duo featuring Justin Crawford and Kennedy McKoy is lethal.

Not to mention how good this receiving corps is with the emergence of wide receivers David Sills V and Gary Jennings. Ka’Raun White is having the type of season that many expected from him. Sills V is a legitimate contender for the Biletnikoff Award with his nine touchdown catches.

Outside of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph, Grier has been the best in the conference. Considering how good the Big 12 is at the quarterback position, that says a lot about the type of season Grier is having.

Things should only get better from here with West Virginia already having faced its two toughest defenses on the schedule in TCU and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Next up for Grier is three consecutive opportunities to put up huge passing stats against the Baylor Bears, Iowa State Cyclones, and Oklahoma State.

Grier is playing at an All-American type level, leading the Mountaineers offense. He’ll continue to put up huge numbers and it’s only a matter of garnering the national attention to get All-American type hype down the stretch. He’s definitely a candidate to get that type of honors at year’s end.
