Wisconsin Football used a strong second half to defeat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 38-17 in Lincoln. Here are five players that earned special recognition.
All the unusual statistics were on the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ side entering Saturday night’s matchup against the Wisconsin Badgers in Lincoln. Riding a night-game winning streak, the Huskers were also 15-0 all-time in games played on Oct. 7. On top of that, the school was honoring the most recent national championship team from 1997 during a “black-out.”
The tough environment proved to be a lot for the Wisconsin Badgers to handle as the usually sure-fire defensive team was on their heels in the first half. They gave up more than 300 yards to Tanner Lee and the Huskers’ offense. Fortunately, the Badgers’ defense stepped up when needed, providing huge play after huge play, particularly in their own territory- holding to Nebraska to just ten first half points despite many trips in Wisconsin territory.
The Huskers opened up the second half just the right way and got the crowd back into it as an Alex Hornibrook thrown pick six tied the game up at 17. From there, the Badgers dominated the game in all aspects- holding Nebraska to well under 100 offensive yards in the second half and at one point running the ball 20 straight times. The Huskers’ defense simply ran out of gas, while the Badgers were able to control the game exactly how they wanted.
