Here’s the Week 7 preview and prediction for the SEC matchup between the purple Tigers (LSU) and the orange Tigers (Auburn).

In this SEC West shootout, the Auburn Tigers are heading to the bayou to take on LSU at home.  LSU earned a much-needed morale booster last week with a win against Florida, but Auburn has been on fire lately, averaging 48 points per game in their last 3. Auburn destroyed Ole Miss at home last Saturday, 44-23.  LSU has more wins in the series at 29-20-1, although Auburn eked out a win last year.

Auburn is one of only two undefeated teams in the SEC West–the other being Alabama.  No surprise there. If Auburn wins this one, the Iron Bowl in late November should pretty much clinch the division. This is not to say that LSU is bereft of weapons.  They looked great against Florida last week, and managed to avoid any turnovers, which has been their Achilles’ heel this season.

This one should be exciting — the matchup is the SEC game of the week. The SEC rivalry game is this Saturday, and here’s everything you need to know for the game:

Keys to Victory

Auburn is hoping to see history repeat itself this year. The Tigers have won two of the last three games in the series against LSU. Unfortunately, Auburn has not won in Baton Rouge since 1999.

LSU’s offense has been shaky for most of this season; however, they seemed to rectify their issues last week against Florida. Regardless, Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham has been perfect in the last few weeks, and their running game has improved with every week.

Granted, Auburn hasn’t really been challenged yet this year. Despite an early loss to Clemson, the Auburn running game is back on track.  Running back Kerryon Johnson has scored 11 times in the last three

Granted, Auburn hasn’t really been challenged yet this year. Despite an early loss to Clemson, the Auburn running game is back on track. Running back Kerryon Johnson has scored 11 times in the last three games, and looks to be well-nigh unstoppable.

LSU is great in the backfield, and if they take a page from Clemson’s defensive playbook they could win this one. Either way, this game is going to be very close, and neither offense will get a chance to really show their mettle (luckily for LSU).

Prediction

This game will be a tough one for Auburn — they haven’t faced any really brutal run defenses yet, and LSU has one of the best. Still, Auburn should be able to pull it out.  It just may take a great deal more effort than Auburn fans would be truly comfortable seeing them expend. Make no mistake-this will be a defensive battle all the way, but Auburn will edge the Purple Tigers out in a last-second grind.

Final Score: Auburn 26, LSU 23
