Anu Solomon, who started season as Baylor football’s starting quarterback, has since withdrawn from the program.
During his weekly press conference, Matt Rhule stated that Anu Solomon has withdrawn from school. Solomon started the first two games this season before being sidelined due to head injury. He was quarterback for losses to Liberty and UTSA. Solomon was 24-of-55 for 399 yards and four touchdowns this season with the Bears.
Solomon was a graduate transfer from Arizona. He came to Baylor hoping to have a big year and that did not come to pass. He has battled injury since he was at Arizona as he played all 14 games for Arizona in 2014 but missed time in 2015 and 2016 due to injury. Following his injury at Baylor, Zach Smith was named starter and has been ever since.
Freshman Charlie Brewer has played well also and the chance for Solomon to regain foothold in the depth chart was waning. Matt Rhule said that the withdrawal was due to medical reasons. Solomon did not want to fall too behind in his classwork so he chose to withdraw. This is another blow to Baylor season that has been filled with injuries.
In addition to Solomon, announcement Rhule said starting middle linebacker Clay Johnston is out for the year with a foot injury. Smith is listed as questionable and Charlie Brewer will start against Kansas. Baylor is desperately hoping to win against Kansas and it may be its best shot all year. However, with the injuries piling up the specter of a winless season becomes more and more real every day.
