Iowa Football: Hawkeyes begin Ohio State game with pick-six (Video)
By Phil Poling
This Ohio State team isn’t great at starting games and that was obvious following a JT Barrett pick-six on the opening drive.
Last week against Penn State, Saquon Barkley returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown against the Buckeyes.
Although they won, the opening-play nightmare continued against Iowa when J.T. Barrett threw his first pick since the Oklahoma loss.
This one did result in a score, but for the opposing Iowa Hawkeyes. Why did Barrett even throw this pass? Iowa safety Amani Hooker made an incredible break on the ball and went untouched to the endzone.
At 5-3, the Hawkeyes need all the help they can get against the Buckeyes; Hooker and the defense started things off with a bang!
The Buckeyes are coming off a thrilling 39-38 win against No. 2 Penn State, so it’s possible they weren’t fully prepared to come out and get punched in the mouth. Ohio State does punch back, though.
After Barrett and the Buckeyes’ offense returned to the field, it was like nothing had happened. Everything went through Urban Meyer’s quarterback.
A first play quarterback keeper for five yards. Then a completed pass to Terry McLaurin. Then another Barrett run for six yards. Then another for seven. After linking up with K.J. HIll for 29 yards, Barrett punctuated the drive with another 29-yard strike to Terry McLaurin.
Urban Meyer sure knows how to instill confidence in his players following a mistake.

This Buckeyes team is obviously good, but the early game mishaps should be of great concern to Buckeye Nation.
